Business Sustainability
& Public Health
Last date for Registration: 30th January 2026.
Workshop Background
Business Sustainability entails the strategic integration of economic objectives with environmental stewardship and social equity, ensuring long-term value creation without compromising the ecological or social systems in which the firm operates. The larger goal of enhancing business sustainability therefore, talks about the critical role of businesses in achieving positive impacts on the environment and or societies. Globally, business sustainability is measured using the ESG yardsticks. ESG stands for environment, social, and governance and refers to factors/criteria measuring the sustainability and ethical impact of a company or business.
Increasingly today, investment decisions are made based on a company’s environmental, social, and governance performance with metrics to report for each criterion that finally results in an ESG score. Today there exist about 600 ESG reporting standards and the discourse around ESG parameters/measurement is still evolving in India.
Given the huge disease, economic, and ecological burden caused by various industries, it becomes important for researchers and practitioners from various disciplines to be aware of and critical of the sustainability reporting practices of businesses. There is also a critical need for health and sustainability experts to scrutinize current corporate reporting frameworks and diagnose gaps in existing standards.
The workshop provides an introduction to business sustainability concepts like ESG and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and what it implies for public health.
